Public Holiday: Following the excitement of Navratri, another big news has arrived in Uttar Pradesh. Tuesday, October 7th, has been declared a public holiday across the state on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. All schools, colleges, banks, and government offices will remain closed on this day. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made the formal announcement in Shravasti on Saturday, also outlining grand celebrations for the birth anniversary. This day, dedicated to Maharishi Valmiki, the great author of the Ramayana, will now be not only a day of religious significance, but also one of relaxation and celebration.

Under this holiday, all educational institutions will be closed, with students receiving a homework-free day. Banks and financial institutions will also remain closed, so withdraw necessary cash in advance. Government offices will be closed for the entire day, although emergency services will remain operational. This year, Valmiki Jayanti falls on October 7th according to the Hindu calendar, and this is why the Chief Minister declared it a statewide holiday.

Speaking in the historic atmosphere of Shravasti, CM Yogi said, “October 7th will be a state holiday on the birth anniversary of Lord Valmiki. An uninterrupted recitation of the Ramayana will be organized in every Dev temple.” He recalled Shravasti as India’s ancient economic capital, a sacred site for Buddhism and Jainism. Yogi emphasized that the glorious history of this place inspires us, and now we are taking it on the path of modern development. On the birth anniversary, Ramayana recitations, bhajan-kirtans, cultural programs, and special felicitation ceremonies for the Valmiki community will be organized in every district. The CM appealed that this day should become a symbol of equality and justice, just like Valmiki’s Ramayana.

During the event, CM Yogi also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 54 development projects worth ₹510 crore in Shravasti. These include roads, bridges, connectivity projects, as well as new schools, hospitals, and medical units. There are also employment-oriented schemes that will help develop the region into a tourism hub. Yogi said, “Shravasti’s glorious history inspires us. We are taking it to new heights of development.”
