Public holiday: Eid-e-Milad holiday in Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Thursday changed the date of public holiday of Eid-e-Milad for Mumbai city and suburbs. Earlier this holiday was declared on Friday 5 September, but now it has been changed to Monday 8 September.

According to the information, representatives of the Muslim community suggested that the procession of Eid-e-Milad be taken out on Monday 8 September. Actually, Anant Chaturdashi is the last day of Ganeshotsav on Saturday, 6 September, when a large number of Ganpati immersions take place. Both the big festivals falling together could have affected the system and security. For this reason, following the advice of the community, the government extended the date.

Holiday date changed in Mumbai and suburbs

In a circular issued by the General Administration Department, it has been clarified that this new holiday date will be applicable only to Mumbai city and suburbs. In the rest of the state, Eid-e-Milad holiday will be on Friday, September 5, as before.

Impact on schools, colleges and offices

According to the information, all government offices and educational institutions in Mumbai and suburbs will remain open normally on Friday. The circular clearly states that all government offices in Mumbai and suburbs will function normally on Friday. Schools and colleges in these districts can also remain open on Friday. Instead, a holiday will be given on Monday. This decision will ease security and crowd control during festivals in the city and both festivals can be celebrated peacefully.
