Public Holiday: Today, Friday, the festival of Eid-e-Milad and Onam is being celebrated across the country. Bank and school holidays have been declared in many cities on these occasions. But the stock markets NSE and BSE are trading normally. Banks and schools are closed today in some states of the country. Here we are telling you in which states government offices, schools etc. are closed and where they are open.
Where will the banks remain closed?
According to the list of holidays of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks will remain closed today. Banks will remain closed today in many cities including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Aizawl, Belapur, Chennai, Dehradun, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Lucknow, New Delhi, Nagpur, Raipur, Ranchi, Thiruvananthapuram, Srinagar and Vijayawada.
Mumbai will have a holiday on a different date
In Mumbai and surrounding areas, Eid-e-Milad holiday will be celebrated on 8 September instead of 5 September. The Muslim community has decided to take out the procession on 8 September. The reason behind this is that Ganpati immersion will take place on Anant Chaturdashi on 6 September. The holiday date has been changed to maintain mutual harmony. However, in the rest of the districts of Maharashtra, the holiday will remain today i.e. on 5 September.
Schools and offices closed
According to the government calendar, Eid-e-Milad is a gazetted holiday. Therefore, most government offices, private companies and schools will remain closed today. The special thing is that this time the festival of Eid-e-Milad and Onam is falling on Teachers’ Day, September 5. Teachers’ Day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of India’s second President and great educationist Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
Trading continues in the stock market
For those who do trading, it is a matter of relief that there will be no impact on the stock market. According to the list of holidays of NSE and BSE, trading will be normal on September 5. That is, investors can transact in the stock market today.
RBI notification on September 8
RBI has clarified that on September 8, 2025, when there will be a holiday of Eid-e-Milad in Mumbai, there will be no transaction in government bonds (G-Sec), forex, money market and rupee-based derivatives on that day. Overall, today i.e. Friday, September 5, banks and schools are closed in many cities, but the stock market will remain open. Whereas in Mumbai, Eid-e-Milad holiday will be celebrated on 8th September.
