Public holiday and long weekend expected on UAE National Day 2025
The UAE Cabinet has announced December 2 and 3, 2025, as official public holidays in celebration of Eid al-Etihad, or the Day of Union, which commemorates the founding of the nation on December 2, 1971. Since these days fall on Tuesday and Wednesday, the holiday could be extended to four days by including Monday, December 1, as a holiday, or possibly even five days depending on the weekend.
This potential long weekend is expected to benefit both social and economic activity. Residents and families will have more time to travel within the country, attend public festivities, or take advantage of the extended holiday period for leisure or short vacations.
Highlights of the planned celebrations are as follows:
- Fireworks and drone shows: Will be held at key venues such as Abu Dhabi Corniche, Yas Island and Dubai Festival City.
- Heritage performances: Traditional music, dance and poetry readings will be held at heritage villages and public parks.
