UP Holidays in 2026: Six public holidays next year fall on Saturdays or Sundays, meaning that if these festivals fell on normal working days, government employees’ working hours could be reduced. The bottom line is that government employees are losing six holidays due to public holidays falling on Saturdays and Sundays. On the other hand, if employees use their earned holidays wisely, they can maximize their enjoyment of at least eight festive holidays throughout the year.
The state government released the calendar of government holidays for next year on Tuesday. There is no change in the number of holidays. Hazrat Ali’s birthday (January 3) falls on Saturday, Shivratri (February 15) on Sunday, Eid (March 21) on Saturday, Independence Day (August 15) on Saturday, and Diwali (November 8) on Sunday.
Planning for these holidays
Good Friday (April 3), Buddha Purnima (May 1), Rakshabandhan (August 28), Janmashtami (September 4), Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti (October 2), and Christmas Day (December 25) fall on Fridays. This means that holidays are already holidays from Thursday evening until Sunday. However, taking a break before or after the holidays can extend the enjoyment of the holidays. Planning holidays in conjunction with scheduled holidays can help plan a good outing. Similarly, Republic Day (January 26) falls on Monday. Offices will be closed on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Government employees can use this as an opportunity.
24 Public Holidays and 31 Restricted Holidays
According to the government calendar, this year there will be 24 public holidays. The number of restricted holidays is 31. Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti (January 3) and Guru Tegh Bahadur Martyrdom Day (November 24) have been declared holidays under executive orders. Separate orders will be issued for these.
Confusion Already About Holi
Discussions have already begun among government employees regarding the Holi holidays. According to the government holiday calendar, Holika Dahan is on March 2, and Holi is on March 4. This means that there is no mention of a holiday on March 3. March 2 is Monday and March 3 is Wednesday. If government employees manage their Monday holiday wisely, they can get a longer holiday from Thursday evening to Wednesday.
