IMD Rain Alert: A Western Disturbance is active in North India, due to which heavy rain is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh on 26-28 February, Uttarakhand on 27 and 28 February. Apart from this, there is a rain alert in the plains of North India between 26-28 February. At the same time, a heatwave warning has been issued in the Konkan areas in the next 24 hours. A rain alert has been issued in Uttar Pradesh for three days from tomorrow.
In the last 24 hours, maximum temperatures were significantly above normal (5°C or more) at a few places over coastal Karnataka, Konkan & Goa, isolated places over Saurashtra & Kutch, and a few places over Gujarat region (3°C to 5°C). Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of 39.0°C was recorded at Kannur Airport (Kerala) over the plains of the country.
Due to Western Disturbance, fairly widespread to widespread rain/snowfall with thunder and lightning is likely over Western Himalayan region during 26-28 February and the intensity will decrease thereafter. Heavy rain/snowfall is likely at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh during 26-28 February. Very heavy rain/snowfall at isolated places over Uttarakhand on 27 and 28 February, Himachal Pradesh on 27 and 28 February.
Rain alert for three days in UP
Talking about the plains of North India, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh during 26 February to 1 March. Rains with thunder and lightning will occur over Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan during 27 February to 1 March. Strong winds (speed 30-40 kmph) are likely over Punjab and Haryana on 27 and 28 February. Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Punjab on 28 February.
Temperature of Northwest India will decrease
At the same time, there will be sporadic to fairly widespread rains with thunderstorms and lightning over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and Kerala and Mahe during 27 February to 02 March. Heavy rains are expected at some places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during 27 February to 01 March over Lakshadweep on 01 and 02 March. According to the Meteorological Department, there is no possibility of any significant change in the maximum temperature over Northwest India during the next 24 hours, but thereafter it will gradually fall by 3-5 degrees Celsius.
