Rain Alert: The monsoon’s withdrawal from the country (Monsoon 2025) began on September 14th. With the cessation of rain in various parts, the time for its departure is nearing. However, as it departs, the monsoon will once again show its strength in Maharashtra (Maharashtra Weather Forecast). A low-pressure area (LPA) is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal on September 24th, and could enter the state by September 28th. Due to this, heavy rainfall is expected in various parts of the state between September 26th and 28th.
According to the Regional Meteorological Center, Mumbai (IMD Mumbai), heavy rain accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms, and winds of 30-40 km/h, is likely in some areas of North Konkan over the next 24 hours. Central Maharashtra and Marathwada are likely to experience lightning and torrential rain accompanied by strong winds of 40-50 km/h. At the same time, light to moderate rain and storm is expected in South Konkan and Goa.
Heavy rains to wreak havoc from September 26th!
According to weather forecasts, rain will revive this week and is likely to continue in the state until at least September 30th. Between September 22nd and 25th, various regions will experience thunderstorms and torrential rain, primarily occurring after noon. From September 26th, the impact of the LPA will become more visible in Maharashtra, and heavy rains may begin in the eastern and southern parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada.
Following this, heavy rains are expected in Konkan, Marathwada, Khandesh, Central Maharashtra, and Vidarbha, including Mumbai, on September 27, with very heavy rains possible in some parts. Rainfall intensity is expected to persist in western parts of the state on September 28 as well.
When will the monsoon leave?
The monsoon’s withdrawal from Maharashtra begins around October 5th, while it returns from Mumbai by October 10th. However, this time the monsoon’s withdrawal is expected to be delayed by a few days.
Citizens have been advised to be extra vigilant, as the ongoing heavy rainfall could lead to waterlogging and flooding. Meanwhile, the Agriculture Department has urged farmers to ensure the safety of their crops according to the weather and protect already harvested crops from rain and strong winds.
Western Winds Active
Rain has returned strongly to Mumbai. However, rain is expected to continue throughout this week in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Weather experts predict that rain may continue throughout the week in Mumbai. In fact, western winds have become active once again, and this is likely to bring heavy rain to many areas in the coming days.
Meanwhile, due to heavy rains over the past two weeks, Mumbai has surpassed its average rainfall for the month of September. The Santacruz weather station has recorded 410 mm of rain so far, against the average of 380 mm. The suburbs have recorded 2,904 mm of rain since June, and the Colaba coastal weather station has recorded 1,930 mm.
