The Meteorological Department has predicted light rain or thundershowers at many places in Jammu and Kashmir. Moderate rain or thundershowers are expected in some districts of Jammu division late night or early morning on September 8.
IMD Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain warning. The monsoon trough is south of its normal position. A depression is active over Rajasthan and Gujarat, which may cause extremely heavy rains at isolated places. Exceptionally heavy rains are likely over Gujarat on September 8. Rajasthan may also receive heavy to very heavy rains on Monday. Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh will receive light to moderate rainfall till September 13. Heavy rains are also likely at some places. Heavy rains are expected at isolated places in Odisha on September 8, 10 and 13. Light to moderate rains will occur in Madhya Pradesh on September 8 and 13, Vidarbha on September 11 and 12, Chhattisgarh on September 10-13, West Bengal and Sikkim on September 8-13 and Bihar on September 9-11.
The weather department has forecast thunderstorms in the national capital on Monday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 35 and 24 degrees Celsius respectively. New Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 34.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The IMD said the minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 25.1 degrees Celsius, 0.5 degrees below the season’s average. It said the relative humidity level in Delhi was recorded at 80 per cent at 5.30 pm. The weather conditions remained largely dry in the Delhi-NCR region on Sunday. Light rainfall occurred in select areas. The Ridge received 5.7 mm of rain till 8.30 am while Mayur Vihar and Pitampura recorded 16 mm and 1.5 mm of rain respectively. Other stations, including Safdarjung, Palam, Ayanagar, Pusa, Najafgarh and Janakpuri, did not receive enough rainfall to be recorded.

Heavy rains again hampered the efforts of the National Highways Authority of India to open the landslide-hit Jammu-Srinagar national highway. It remained closed for the sixth consecutive day on Sunday. Officials said that the pilgrimage to the Mata Vaishno Devi temple located on the Trikuta hills also remained suspended for the 13th consecutive day. The Border Roads Organisation restored traffic through a by-pass due to a damaged portion on the Basohli-Bani road in Kathua district. The Yatra was suspended a few hours before the landslide caused by heavy rains on August 26 on the old route at Ardhkumwari. 34 people were killed and 20 others injured in the landslide.
