Rajpal Yadav interim bail: The Delhi High Court has granted interim bail to Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav in a cheque bounce case. The actor had sought bail to attend his niece’s wedding on February 19th. The court stated that the next hearing will be held on March 18th, and he will have to be present in court that day or join via video conference. The court clearly stated that any kind of negligence will not be tolerated.
To obtain bail, Rajpal Yadav will have to furnish a personal bond of ₹1 lakh and a surety of the same amount. He will also have to surrender his passport (if not already surrendered) and cannot leave the country without the court’s permission. The actor has also paid ₹1.5 lakh to the complainant.
What is the matter?
In 2010, Rajpal Yadav took a loan to make his film “Aata Pata Lapata.”
The film was released in 2012 but flopped at the box office. Consequently, he was unable to repay the loan, and the interest increased to a total of approximately ₹9 crore (approximately $1.5 billion). This amount relates to seven separate cases.
In 2018, a magistrate court convicted him under Section 138 (check bouncing) and sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment. He subsequently appealed to higher courts, delaying his arrest. During this time, he repaid some of the money, but the interest accrued, bringing the outstanding amount to approximately ₹9 crore (approximately $1.5 billion).
In February 2026, the Delhi High Court ordered him to surrender. He surrendered in Tihar Jail on February 5th. He has currently been granted interim bail, and the next hearing will be held on March 18th.
