The Food, Supply and Consumer Affairs Department of the Delhi Government has made the process of making ration cards completely online to make it transparent and easy.
Ration Card: If you live in Delhi and want to obtain a ration card, it’s important to know that the entire process has now been made online. A ration card isn’t just a means to obtain cheap wheat and rice, it’s also an essential government document. Through it, you can avail of various government schemes, subsidies, and the Public Distribution System (PDS).
The Delhi government’s Food, Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department has made the ration card process completely online to make it transparent and easy. Applications for new ration cards will now be accepted only through the e-District portal. Offline applications are no longer available.
Why is a ration card necessary?
Ration cards provide eligible families with access to grains and other food items at subsidized prices. They also serve as an identity card and facilitate the benefits of various government schemes. Millions of families in Delhi benefit from ration cards. The government periodically approves new applications to replace those who have died, moved, or surrendered their cards. Millions of new ration cards are expected to be issued soon.
Who can apply for a ration card?
Ration cards are available only to families with an annual family income of up to ₹1.20 lakh, permanent residents of Delhi, those who belong to the economically weaker section, and those who fall under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) or Priority Household (PHH) category.
Highlights of the new rules
1. Applications will now be completely online.
2. Aadhaar numbers for every family member are mandatory.
3. The eldest woman will be designated as the head of the family.
4. The income limit has been increased to ₹1.20 lakh.
5. Applications will be thoroughly scrutinized.
Who will not be eligible?
According to the new rules, those who own a four-wheeled vehicle, pay income tax, are in government employment, have an electricity connection of more than 2 kilowatts, and own a house or land in a colony classified as A to E will not be eligible for a ration card. Previously, the annual income limit for a ration card was ₹1 lakh, which has now been increased to ₹1.20 lakh. This will allow more needy families to benefit from the scheme.
How to apply online?
1. Applications for a ration card can only be made on the Delhi government’s e-District Portal.
2. First, visit the portal.
3. If you are a new user, register first.
4. After registration, log in.
5. Then, fill out the ration card application form.
6. Upload all required documents.
7. Submit the form. After submitting the form, the application will be reviewed by the Food Supply Officer.
8. If necessary, officials may visit your home for verification or ask for additional information. You can also track the status of your application on the same portal.
