The Delhi government has also changed the ration registration process. Now, Aadhaar cards of all family members will be required for registration. Furthermore, only online registration will be valid.
New Delhi. The ration card is a vital government document. It provides access to subsidized food grains and benefits under various government schemes. Furthermore, the ration card is also used as proof of identity and address. Meanwhile, the rules for ration cards in Delhi have changed. Now, obtaining a new ration card will be available online only, and providing the Aadhaar number of every family member is mandatory. This will particularly impact families that receive subsidized rations.
What are the main changes?

Woman to be the ‘head’: The eldest woman in the family (above 18 years of age) will be considered the head of the household. If there is no adult woman in the household, a man will be considered the head until a woman in the household turns 18.
Increase in income limit: The government has now increased the annual income limit from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.20 lakh, meaning more people will be able to apply for ration cards.
