RBI had imposed a ban on withdrawing money from this bank, now a scam of Rs 122 crores has come to light!

Now another update has come in this case, in which a scam of Rs 122 crore has been alleged. Along with this, an FIR has also been lodged against General Manager Hitesh Mehta. Mumbai Police has registered an FIR in this case.

Reserve Bank of India on Saturday banned New India Cooperative Bank. No customer can withdraw even Rs 1 from this cooperative bank. The bank has also been banned from distributing loans. However, this cooperative bank will have the right to recover the loan. As soon as this news reached the depositors, they gathered outside some branches of the cooperative bank.

Now another update has come out in this case, in which a scam of 122 crores has been alleged. Also, an FIR has been lodged against General Manager Hitesh Mehta. Mumbai Police has registered an FIR in this case. A case has been registered against Hitesh Mehta on the complaint of New India Cooperative Bank Acting CEO Devarshi Ghosh. Hitesh Mehta is also the Head of Accounts in this cooperative bank.

Allegation of 122 crore scam!

A case of criminal breach of trust has been registered against Hitesh Mehta, accusing him of embezzling reserve funds of Rs 122 crore. It has been alleged that Hitesh Mehta has misused his position and manipulated the reserve funds of Prabhadevi and Goregaon branches of Mumbai. The FIR has been registered under 316(5) 61(2) Indian Justice Code 2023.

Mumbai Police will investigate

The matter will now be investigated by the Economic Offenses Wing of Mumbai Police. Let us tell you that RBI has also banned the issuance of any kind of loan on this bank. Also, withdrawal of money from the bank has also been banned. There is no restriction on any kind of money coming into the bank.

What will happen to the account holders now?

As of March 2024, this bank had deposits of Rs 2436 crore. Depositors have the right to claim insurance up to Rs 5 lakh under the Deposit Insurance Scheme. Depositors have been asked to deposit their claims in the bank.

Why action was taken against Cooperative Bank?

The central bank has taken action keeping in mind the liquidity of this bank. There are concerns about the liquidity position of this bank, due to which RBI has banned withdrawal of money from savings, current or any other deposit account. RBI said that these measures have been implemented to protect the interests of the depositors.

This bank has co-operative banks in Andheri, Bandra, Borivali, Chembur, Ghatkopar, Girgaon, Goregaon, Nariman Point, Kandivali, Malad, Mulund, Santacruz and Versova. Apart from Mumbai, this bank has branches in Navi Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Pune and Surat.
