SBI customers are receiving a message on their WhatsApp account in the name of the State Bank of India. This message claims that if SBI customers don’t update their Aadhaar, their SBI YONO mobile app will be blocked. An APK file is also being sent along with this message, prompting customers to install this APK file.

Messages are being sent from fake accounts on WhatsApp

If you’ve received such a message in the name of the State Bank of India, first report the WhatsApp account and avoid downloading or installing the APK file. Yes, this is a fake message being sent to SBI customers’ WhatsApp accounts, attempting to target them as victims of cyber fraud. The Reserve Bank of India is not sending any such messages to its customers. This is a fake WhatsApp account, through which customers are being pressured to download and install the APK file by threatening to block the app.

State Bank of India Issues Advice for Customers

The State Bank of India itself shared a post for its customers, advising them to avoid any APK files. In its post, the State Bank of India stated that clicking on an APK file could result in the transfer of all funds deposited in your bank account to other accounts. SBI advised against clicking, downloading, or updating any APK file. SBI advised downloading apps only from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
