School New System: To ensure that all children in Bihar do not lag behind in their schooling and continue to receive quality education, the government has taken another major step towards qualitative improvement in all 71,297 primary schools in the state.

The 13.3 million 73 thousand 284 children studying in these schools will be graded. The grading will be based on their marks in the annual examination. Based on this, the children will be divided into five categories.

Under this scheme, children will be awarded grades ranging from A to E based on their performance. Special attention will be given to the studies of children achieving C, D, and E grades, so that they can be promoted to A and B grades.

The new system will be implemented in all primary schools from the current academic session. This grading system is currently in effect in schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Changes Under the New Education Policy

Since the implementation of the new National Education Policy 2020, school education in Bihar has been undergoing significant changes and reforms. Given the growing disparity between students in classroom learning and assessment, the Education Department has taken the important decision to grade elementary school students.

To strictly enforce this system, the Education Department has directed the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) to develop an action plan and implement it starting this new session.

A detailed action plan for grading will be submitted to each school in April. It is proposed to implement this system in secondary and higher secondary schools in the future.

Grading will be as follows:

  • Children scoring 81-100 percent marks will receive an “A” grade.
  • Children scoring 61-80 percent marks will receive a “B” grade.
  • Children scoring 41-60 percent marks will receive a “C” grade.
  • Children scoring 33-40 percent marks will receive a “D” grade.
  • Children scoring 0-32 percent marks will receive an “E” grade.
