School Timing Change: In view of the scorching heat in Himachal Pradesh, the Directorate of Education has changed the timings of summer schools. Especially in areas like Kangra, Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, BBN area of Solan district and Paonta Sahib and Nahan of Sirmaur district, the temperature has reached 45 degrees Celsius for the last few days. In such dire circumstances, students and teachers are facing heat and strong sunlight, which is affecting their health and studies.
Changes implemented with immediate effect
According to the order issued by the Directorate of Education on Friday, the timing of schools in these heat-affected areas has been fixed from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm. If necessary, the Deputy Commissioner or Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of the respective districts can issue further instructions in this regard. It has been clarified in the order that this change will come into effect with immediate effect and its purpose is to protect the students from the ill effects of heat.
Order to shorten prayer meetings
The order also specifically instructs that students should not be allowed to play in the grounds due to hot weather. Also, the morning prayer meeting has been asked to be shortened so that students do not stay in the sun for a long time and their bodies are not affected by excessive heat. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the health of the children so that they remain safe and healthy during school hours.
Instructions to all schools
Apart from this, the Directorate of Education has instructed all schools to compulsorily give two additional drinking water breaks to the students. This step has been taken so that the children can remain fully hydrated and can be protected from heat related diseases like heat wave, dehydration etc.
Yellow alert for heat wave for 2 days
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has also issued a yellow alert for heat wave in Una, Mandi, Kullu and Kangra districts during the next 24 hours. However, the relief is that an alert has also been issued for thunderstorm, rain and hail in most areas, which will provide relief from the havoc of heat. An alert has been issued for rain, thunderstorm and lightning in the state from June 15 to 17.
