School Timings Changed: Temperatures have dropped below 6 degrees in many districts of Bihar. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of cold and foggy weather for the next 48 hours. Meanwhile, a decision has been taken to reschedule school timings for the safety of students.
School Timings Changed: Severe cold and a cold wave have begun in Northeast India. The steadily falling mercury has exacerbated the hardships of the people. Meanwhile, the Patna administration has decided to change school timings for the safety of students. The new school timings were announced in an official notice issued by the authorities.
Timings for primary, middle, secondary, and higher secondary schools have been changed. According to an order issued by the Patna district administration, the situation has cleared up after several days of weather-related problems in Bihar. Government schools in the district will now operate on a revised schedule, with morning classes starting slightly later to protect students from the extreme cold and dense fog in the morning. According to the new timetable, schools will now operate from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The new schedule will have a prayer meeting from 9:30 am to 10 am, followed by eight periods, and a 40-minute mid-day break from 12 noon to 12:40 pm.
The complete schedule of the new timings is as follows-
| first period | 10 am – 10:40 am |
| Second Period | 10:40 am – 11:20 am |
| Third Period | 11:20 am – 12 noon |
| Fourth Period | 12:40 pm – 1:20 pm |
| Fifth period | 1:20 pm – 2 pm |
| sixth period | 2 PM – 2:40 PM |
| seventh period | 2:40 pm – 3:20 pm |
| eighth period | 3:20 pm – 4 pm |
This new timetable will apply to all government schools, including Sanskrit and Urdu schools. The decision aims to maintain a regular academic schedule despite the increasing cold.
District officials stated that the advancement of school timings is a precautionary measure aimed at reducing cold-related illnesses, absenteeism, and the difficulty students and staff face in commuting on winter mornings.
Students should keep these things in mind:
- Confirm your arrival and departure times from your schools.
- Wear appropriate clothing for the winter season.
- Follow school-level guidelines regarding attendance and safety.
Will this be applicable outside Patna district?
While the official notice was issued by the Patna District Administration, other districts may also take similar steps based on local weather conditions. In previous years, district magistrates across Bihar have issued their own orders to change school timings during cold waves, heat waves, or extreme weather events. Parents and students outside Patna District are advised to pay attention to the notifications issued by their respective administrations, based on district-specific information.
Advice for Students and Parents
The district administration has advised parents and guardians to follow the instructions issued by their respective school authorities, as schools may issue their own circulars or messages informing them about the implementation of the changed timings.
