Schools Closed: Pollution in the capital Delhi has created a terrible situation. For the past few days, the pollution level in Delhi has reached a very serious level. The situation has become such that the health of children and the elderly is being adversely affected due to pollution. In view of this serious level of pollution in the capital, the Delhi government has now taken a big step. On Monday, the Delhi government has directed all schools in the capital to conduct completely online classes for students up to class 5.

The government gave this order

According to the order, all government, aided, and recognized private schools in Delhi will operate classes from nursery to grade 5 in online mode until further notice. This means that young children will no longer be invited to school .

It should be noted that earlier, schools were allowed to conduct classes in a hybrid mode for students up to grades 9 and 11. Where possible, online classes were also conducted alongside physical classes. The Delhi government’s official order stated that all government, government-aided, and recognized private schools under the Directorate of Education (DoE), NDMC, MCD, and Delhi Cantonment Board must conduct classes in a hybrid mode for students up to grades 9 and 11. This will include both physical and online classes wherever possible. This order was implemented with immediate effect until further instructions. Students and their parents were also given the option to choose online classes if available.

This new decision comes after the Commission for Air Quality Management ( CAQM) implemented Stage – IV of GRAP on December 13. On that day, Delhi’s Air Quality Index ( AQI) had risen above the “severe+” level.

GRAP-4 restrictions apply

Emergency measures are usually taken under Stage IV of GRAP . This includes a halt to most construction and demolition work, a ban on the entry of non-essential diesel trucks, restrictions on certain vehicles, and advice to reduce outdoor activities. This advice is especially given for children, the elderly, and people with respiratory diseases. Pollution levels in Delhi remained quite worrying on Monday as well. The AQI in Anand Vihar was recorded at around 493, while in Wazirpur it reached 500, indicating very poor air quality. Dense smog and fog were also seen in areas like Kartavya Path, Akshardham, AIIMS , and Yashobhoomi.
