Schools Closed: In Uttar Pradesh, severe cold and dense fog are currently severely impacting people’s daily routines. Visibility is significantly reduced in the mornings, making it risky for young children to attend school. Keeping this in mind, district administrations in several districts of the state have decided to close schools from nursery to grade 8 until January 17th. This decision was taken with the safety and health of children as a priority. Let’s find out which districts in Uttar Pradesh will have schools closed on January 17th.

Gautam Buddha Nagar

In view of the cold and dense fog in Gautam Buddha Nagar district, the district administration has taken a major decision. On the instructions of the District Magistrate, all government and private schools in the district, from nursery to grade 8, have been declared closed on January 16th and 17th, 2026. The order issued by District Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar clearly states that due to poor visibility in the mornings, children may face difficulties in commuting to school, hence the decision to close schools.

Saharanpur

The cold wave continues to affect Saharanpur district. All schools from grades 1 to 8 will remain closed until January 17th. The district administration stated that dense fog in the morning could pose a threat to children’s safety, so this step has been taken.

Bijnor

In Bijnor district, due to the adverse weather conditions, school holidays for grades 8 and up have been extended until January 17th. The administration has instructed all schools to strictly follow the order.

Muzaffarnagar

Due to the cold wave and chilly winds in Muzaffarnagar, schools from nursery to 8th grade will remain closed until January 17th. However, classes from 9th to 12th are being conducted in many places due to examinations.

Badaun

In Badaun district, a decision has been taken to close schools to protect young children from the cold. Schools from grades 1 to 8 will not reopen until January 17th.

Bareilly

In Bareilly district, orders have been issued to close primary and junior schools until January 17th due to the cold and fog. The administration says that schools will reopen only when the weather normalizes.

Prayagraj

The situation is slightly different in Prayagraj district. Here, schools from nursery to 8th grade have been ordered to remain closed until January 20th. Since January 19th is a Sunday, schools will reopen immediately after that date.

Important Precautions for Parents

  • It’s crucial to take special care of children’s health during this cold season. Experts recommend that children remain fully clothed, even indoors, to prevent catching a cold.
  • It’s best to give children lukewarm water to drink instead of cold water. This can help prevent colds, coughs, and throat problems.
  • Cold winds are more common during the early morning and late evening hours, so avoid taking young children outside unless absolutely necessary.
  • Parents are also advised to monitor school WhatsApp groups, notices, or official information.
