Electricity Bill: If you are often negligent in filling the electricity bill, then you may have to bear the brunt of it. Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has started preparing to take action against smart meter defaulters.
Strict action against those who do not pay electricity bills
According to the website of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), 1120145 smarts have been installed in Uttar Pradesh so far. The work of smart installation is going on fast in the entire country including UP. Smart meters will help prevent electricity theft and the income of electricity distribution companies will also increase. Therefore, the Uttar Pradesh government is now going to take a tough attitude against those companies who do not pay their electricity bills on time.
Smart meter will be converted into prepaid meter
Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited has started preparing to take action against the smart meter defaulters. For the defaulters who have not deposited electricity bill for five consecutive months, their smart meter will be automatically converted into pre-paid. The central server will convert the consumer’s connection to an online pre-paid meter. When the smart meter is pre-paid, electricity consumers will not be able to use electricity without recharging. What is most troublesome is that once the connection of the meter is pre-paid, it cannot be changed again to postpaid. UPPCL has added this new feature to the smart meter. So that consumers pay the bills on time. With this, the corporation is expected to get revenue and consumers will also be free from the mess of dues.
