Smart Prepaid Meters: Smart prepaid meter consumers in the district are facing a major power outage. Over 140,000 consumers are facing the threat of power cuts due to non-recharge.

Due to non-recharge of smart meters, the Electricity Corporation has incurred revenue arrears of over ₹35 crore.

According to the Electricity Corporation’s data, smart meters have been installed for 192,742 consumers in the district so far. Of these, 167,461 consumers have smart prepaid meters installed.

Zone 3 has the highest revenue backlog

Looking at the zone-wise data, Zone 3 has the highest revenue backlog, at ₹15.31 crore. Furthermore, Zone 1 has ₹12.38 crore and Zone 2 has ₹8.30 crore. Recently, on Saturday, the corporation abruptly disconnected power supply to smart prepaid meters with negative balances.

This created panic in many areas. Officials have clarified that a phased disconnection campaign will be launched against major defaulters starting March 10th.

In such a situation, consumers who do not recharge their meters in a timely manner may face power outages at any time. The department has appealed to all consumers to recharge their meters in a timely manner.

Monitor consumption with a mobile app

Zone-I Chief Engineer Pawan Agarwal urged consumers to download the UPPCL Smart App. He explained that through this app, consumers can view their daily, monthly, and hourly electricity consumption. A graph of maximum demand and consumption is also available.

Complaints can be filed and their status tracked through the app. Call, email, and chat facilities are also available. The most important feature is that consumers can instantly recharge their prepaid meters.
