Stamp Duty Exemption: The Uttar Pradesh government has given a gift to ex-servicemen and disabled people. Now they will get exemption in stamp duty, which was previously being given only to women. This announcement was made during a meeting of the Stamp and Registration Department on Thursday, where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also issued several instructions aimed at increasing government efficiency. Ex-servicemen and disabled people will now get a 1 percent discount in stamp duty on the purchase of property up to Rs 1 crore.
Existing rules for exemption
Under the new policy, properties including land or houses worth up to Rs 1 crore purchased in the name of women will now get a 1 per cent exemption in stamp duty. Earlier, this benefit was limited to properties worth up to Rs 10 lakh, with a maximum exemption of ₹10,000. However, with the new decision, this exemption has been extended to properties worth up to ₹1 crore, ensuring greater financial benefits to women in the state.
E-payment of registration fee above ₹20,000 made mandatory
Based on the positive results of a pilot project in 5 districts, Chief Minister Adityanath directed that e-payment of registration fee above Rs 20,000 be made mandatory in all districts, according to a PTI report, a statement said. He also called for implementing Aadhaar authentication to curb frauds and a single-window e-registration system to simplify procedures for allottees of development authorities.
Instructions to fill vacant posts as soon as possible
The Chief Minister directed the officials to fill the vacant posts as soon as possible, and also asked to explore more options for stamp sales and rationalize the commission of vendors. He announced that stamp duty and registration charges will be waived on lease agreements up to 10 years for small and medium-scale rentals. Stamps and Registration Minister Ravindra Jaiswal was also present in the meeting, where information was given about the significant progress in digitization.
The officials told the Chief Minister that 99 percent of the deeds registered from 2002 to 2017 have been digitized, while at present more than 98 percent of registrations are being done through e-stamp. He informed that the assessment lists have been revised in all the districts to remove anomalies and CCTV cameras are being installed in sub-registrar offices to enhance security.
