Diwali Muhurat Trading 2025
According to a circular issued by NSE and BSE on September 22, the Diwali Muhurat trading session will be held on October 21 from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm. Trade modifications can be made until 2:55 pm. “All trades executed during this Muhurat trading session will be valid for settlement,” NSE said.
Muhurat trading is a special one-hour session held every year on Diwali, marking the beginning of the new Hindu calendar (Samvat 2082 in 2025). This session typically takes place in the evening, but this year it will be held in the afternoon. Trading will be available across all segments, including equities, commodity derivatives, currency derivatives, equity futures and options, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB).
Historically, Muhurat trading has generally been auspicious. In 13 of the past 16 years, major indices have closed with gains, even when trading volumes were low. The 2024 Muhurat trading session also saw a bullish market. Last year, the BSE Sensex gained 335 points (0.42%) to close at 79,724, while the Nifty 50 gained 99 points (0.41%) to close at 24,304.
