Stock Market Holiday: Indian stock markets will remain closed across the country on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti (Gurupurab). All trading will be suspended on the country’s major stock exchanges, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE. According to the holiday calendar released by the exchange, all transactions related to equity, derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), and currency derivatives will not take place on November 5. This means that investors will not be able to place any trading orders on this day.

Next Holiday on Christmas

According to the NSE’s holiday list, the next trading holiday will be on December 25th (Christmas). After this, the markets will remain open as usual until the last week of December.

A Total of 14 Stock Market Holidays in 2025

NSE and BSE have declared a total of 14 market holidays for the year 2025. This does not include weekly holidays, i.e., Saturdays and Sundays. Furthermore, if banks or other institutions are closed due to regional festivals in a particular state, this may also have a limited impact on market activity.

Banks Will Also Remain Closed

Banks will also remain closed in many states and Union Territories (UTs) on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti. However, this holiday has been determined state-wise, so banking services will not be affected simultaneously everywhere. Customers will be able to use net banking and mobile banking for essential services.

Significance of Guru Nanak Jayanti

Guru Nanak Dev Ji was the first Guru and founder of Sikhism. His birthday, known as Gurupurab, is celebrated with reverence and devotion across the country. This festival falls on Kartik Purnima, which typically falls in November. On this day, gurdwaras across the country organize morning processions, kirtans, langar seva, and processions. Guru Nanak Dev Ji preached equality, service, peace, and devotion throughout his life. This is why Guru Nanak Jayanti has become a festival of inspiration not only for the Sikh community but for people of all religions.
