Summer school holidays: Important news has emerged for students and parents in West Bengal. The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has announced major changes to the summer vacations for 2026. While students typically received a long summer break in May and June, the vacation period has now been reduced to just six days. The board stated that this decision was made to balance the academic session and reduce academic pressure. According to the new guidelines, the summer break will now run from May 11th to May 17th. According to the WBBSE, this decision will reduce the pressure on students and prevent academic loss.

Summer Vacation Reduced from 11 Days to Six Days

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has made a significant decision, reducing the summer vacation period for students from 11 days to six days. This decision will apply to all board-affiliated schools. Reactions to this decision are mixed. The board says that the total holidays for the year have to be kept within a certain limit, due to which the summer holidays have been reduced.

A 25-day continuous holiday will be available for festivals.

While the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has reduced the summer holidays from 11 to just six days this year, there is some good news for students and teachers. The board has significantly increased the holidays during the festive season. This time, major festivals like Durga Puja, Kali Puja, and Bhaiphonta will receive a continuous 25-day holiday. This means that while the holidays may be shorter during the summer, there will be plenty of rest during the festivals. This change brings relief to students, parents, and school staff. The extended holiday break will not only provide mental relaxation but also increase the opportunity to spend time with family.

Supplement Sheets Discontinued for the 12th Board Exam

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has taken several other major decisions, including completely discontinuing supplement sheets for the 12th grade board exams starting in 2026. This means that students will no longer receive any extra sheets during the exam. Students will now be required to answer in the answer sheet provided.

Signatures on answer sheets are mandatory

The West Bengal Board has implemented a new rule this year to make the examination process more stringent and transparent. The examiner or invigilator’s signature will now be mandatory on the last page of every student’s answer sheet. If this signature is not found on any answer sheet, the answer sheet will be considered invalid. This rule will reduce the possibility of copy alterations, additions, or checking errors, ensuring fair marks for students.
