Supreme Court launches mobile app for media persons, will be able to connect directly during online hearing

The Chief Justice said that the media plays an important role in conveying information. Bringing the court to the virtual platform is a very difficult process.

The Supreme Court has launched a mobile app to connect mediapersons with virtual hearings. On the occasion of the app launch, Judge Justice Hemant Gupta said that the media’s access to the proceedings of the court will increase transparency. Chief Justice NV Ramana said that after the launch of the app, friends of the media will not have to bother to come to court. The Secretary General of the Supreme Court said that this mobile app will soon be available on the Google Play Store.

The CJI said on the occasion, “One person will be appointed for the coordination between the Supreme Court and the media. I hope the media people will use this facility responsibly. ” He said that the epidemic has affected everyone. He said, “The first case of infection came in the court on 27 April 2020. After this, 800 staff of the Supreme Court have been infected so far. 6 senior registry staff also became positive and 3 died. ”

CJI Ramana said that transparency is very important in the court hearing. He said, “Sometimes we have banned people from coming for security reasons. It is important for court hearings to reach people because they should know who will or will not be affected by this. Media plays an important role in conveying this information. Kovid created such a situation that we are unable to meet our family members in our house (court). Bringing the court to the virtual platform is a very difficult process. ”

The CJI said, “Media faces major challenges in reporting. I was also a journalist for some time. At that time we did not have a car or bike. At that time there were regulations to not take any additional facilities. I had also faced these difficulties to report back in those days. ”

Employees developing apps are also infected

He said that Justice AM Khanwilkar, Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Hemant Gupta and all the registry officials have worked hard for this app, all of them should be thanked. The CJI said, “We came to know that the media personnel depended on the lawyers for the court hearing and the link. That is why such an arrangement was made. ” During the app launch, Justice Khanwilkar and Justice Chandrachud were also present.

Justice Chandrachud was found infected with the Corona virus on Wednesday. They said that they are recovering. Justice Chandrachud said, “Many of our staff developing this app are infected. All 6 people working on it have been found positive. We hope that everyone will be safe with this facility. Hopefully, this is part of the many steps to be taken by the CJI in the coming times. ”
