You can now order food on Swiggy using your voice. The company has partnered with Sarvam AI, a domestic artificial intelligence company. Interestingly, you can also make payments using your voice on this platform.
The way online food orders are changing in India. Now, you won’t need to open an app and type. Just speak, and your food, groceries, or table booking will be done.
In fact, Swiggy has launched voice-led commerce in collaboration with indigenous AI startup Sarvam AI. This feature will give users the option to order by speaking in their own language.
This new system is set to transform Swiggy’s entire ecosystem. Now, all three services—Full Delivery, Instamart, and Dineout—can be used simultaneously through voice. If you say, “I want a paneer butter masala and two naans,” the AI will automatically understand and place the order.
Partnership between indigenous AI company Sarvam and Swiggy
Most importantly, this feature isn’t limited to English. Sarvam’s AI model will work in more than 10 Indian languages, including Hindi, making online ordering easier even for people in smaller towns and non-English speaking users.
If this model is successful, the need for an app will be reduced, and conversation will become the interface. However, this will be challenging.
It’s worth noting that this technology is powered by Sarvam’s AI assistant, Indus, which understands voice and manages the entire process, from search to ordering and payment. Razorpay’s payment system has also been integrated into this system, making the entire process end-to-end. Since Sarvam AI has partnered with Razorpay, even voice payments can be made.
How to order food without an app or internet?
During the AI Impact Summit, Sarvam AI and Swiggy demonstrated how a user can order from Swiggy Instamart without an app or internet. For this, Sarvam AI’s chat platform, Indus, has been integrated with Swiggy. This means that food can be ordered while chatting.
From order initiation to payment
This means that the user will not need to perform multiple steps. The AI will handle everything on its own. From order search to payment, you can complete everything by speaking.
Another major aspect of this technology is accessibility. There are still millions of people in India who struggle to use apps easily, especially due to language barriers. In such a situation, voice-based systems could prove to be a game-changer for them.
It’s worth noting that most cab drivers and small shopkeepers use Google’s voice search feature extensively. If Sarvam AI makes voice commands easier in Hindi, it could reduce people’s dependence on screens.
According to reports, in some cases, orders can be placed without downloading an app, simply through a phone call. This could reduce the need for both the internet and the app.
