TikTok, AliExpress: The website of Chinese video streaming platform TikTok has resumed in India after 5 years, although the app is still not available. In fact, in 2020, the Indian government had banned many Chinese apps including TikTok, citing security reasons. Along with this, the ban has also been lifted from the shopping website AliExpress and it has been unblocked in India. At the same time, government sources say that the ban is still on.

According to the report of Business Today, TikTok’s website is opening for many users, but the app is not visible on Google Play Store and Apple App Store. However, TikTok and its parent company ByteDance have not given any official statement regarding the return of the app in India. At the same time, government sources have clarified that contrary to the news coming in the media, there has been no change in the status quo of TikTok and related websites.

Only the homepage of TikTok’s website is opening in India

Let us tell you that TikTok was banned in June 2020, when India-China tension was at its peak in the Galwan Valley. The Indian government banned 59 mobile apps, calling them a threat to national security. This list included TikTok, ShareIt, UC Browser, UC News and many popular apps. This ban was imposed under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act 2000.

The return of the TikTok website has come at a time when India-China relations are thawing. Recently, in the meeting between PM Modi and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, issues like maintaining peace on the border, opening border trade and increasing investment were discussed.

When were Chinese apps banned?

In June 2020, the Government of India issued a notification announcing a ban on 59 mobile apps, citing national security concerns. Officials had said that there was sufficient evidence to prove that these apps were engaged in activities prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India and public order. The Ministry of Information Technology imposed the ban under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act 2000 as well as the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking Access to Information by the Public) Rules, 2009.

These apps were included in the list of banned apps

The list of banned apps included many popular platforms widely used in India, including names like TikTok, Shareit, UC Browser, Kwai, UC News, Vigo Video, Baidu Map, Clash of Kings and DU Battery Saver.

Crisis deepens on TikTok in America

Interestingly, during this time, the crisis on TikTok in America is deepening. ByteDance has received an ultimatum to sell its operations in America or face a ban. Meanwhile, the White House launched its official TikTok account this week. In the very first post, a video of President Donald Trump was shared. In which he said that every day I wake up with the resolve to give a better life to the people of this nation. I am your voice. The video has been captioned – America, we are back.

Congress targeted the government

Congress’s statement has come out in this matter. Congress said that the website of the Chinese company ‘Tik Tok’ has started working in India. Our 20 brave soldiers were martyred in the clash with China. At first, PM Narendra Modi gave a clean chit to China. But, when Congress put pressure, ‘Tik Tok’ was banned to manage the headlines. Now PM Modi is again hugging China, he has met the Chinese foreign minister and is about to go to China himself and in the meantime this news related to TikTok has come. Congress said that it is clear that PM Narendra Modi’s love for China has overshadowed his love for the country. Like the ceasefire with Pakistan, a deal of martyrdom has been made with China as well.
