Year-ender 2025: This year, major changes have been made to toll payments for highway travelers. The new system has brought convenience to travelers and made travel easier than before.
Year-ender 2025: The year 2025 is about to end, and this year has seen a number of changes for people. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has made significant changes to the toll payment system this year. The biggest complaint among highway travelers was the long queues at toll plazas and the hassle of making repeated payments. To alleviate this problem, NHAI has developed a technology-based system.
Toll payment is now not only digital but also significantly more convenient. This year, a new option has been introduced for FASTag users, making travel easier for regular travelers. The new system aims to save time, improve traffic flow, and make highway travel more comfortable.
The FASTag Annual Pass has changed the toll payment method.
This year, NHAI introduced the FASTag Annual Pass, which, once activated, can be used throughout the year. This pass is especially beneficial for those who travel on the highway daily or frequently. After taking the annual pass, there is no worry of toll being deducted every time and the need to stop at the toll plaza also reduces.
This FASTag-linked pass is directly linked to the vehicle’s tag, allowing for automatic entry and exit. This has made toll collection faster and more accurate. NHAI believes this system will reduce congestion at toll plazas and significantly eliminate traffic jams.
Direct Benefits to Commuters
Regular commuters are reaping the greatest benefits of the FASTag Annual Pass. For those traveling for work, business, or long distances daily, this system saves both time and money. Fuel costs incurred due to frequent stops at toll plazas are also reduced. Furthermore, digital records track every transaction, making it easier to report any discrepancies.
Due to fewer interruptions, highway travel has become smoother and more stress-free. Truck and bus drivers are also benefiting from this, as it has become easier to complete their journeys on time. Overall, the FASTag Annual Pass focuses on making highway travel faster, easier, and more reliable.
FASTag facility will also undergo changes
FASTag will now also see system-level changes. According to official information, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has further strengthened the national electronic toll collection technology. Its aim is to make the toll system across the country fully digital and interconnected.
The new technology involves installing an RFID device on a vehicle’s windscreen. As the vehicle passes through the toll plaza, the toll amount is automatically deducted from the driver’s linked bank account without stopping. This eliminates cash payments, long lines, and wasted time. The new system is considered a major step towards making toll collection faster, more accurate, and transparent.
