Rail Ticket Cancellation Rules: The Railways has amended several rules regarding ticket cancellation and boarding point changes. Passengers can now change their boarding station up to 30 minutes before the train’s departure.
Train Boarding Point Change Rule: Millions of people travel on Indian Railways every day. Numerous trains are operated daily for passenger convenience. Traveling by train requires booking tickets in advance, but often, plans change at the last minute. In such situations, many people cancel their tickets, and some face a change in their boarding point. The Railways has amended several rules regarding ticket cancellation and boarding point changes. Let us explain what the new rule regarding boarding point changes is.
The Railways has amended the ticket cancellation rules. According to the new rules, different refund rates and penalties have been set for ticket cancellation. As train departures approach, these rules will become more stringent, impacting passengers’ pockets. The Railways will implement these new rules between April 1 and April 15, 2026.
New Ticket Cancellation Rules
The Railway Ministry has amended the cancellation and refund rules for confirmed tickets. Under this, no refund will be made if the ticket is not cancelled within the stipulated time. Under the new rules, refunds will be provided based on the cancellation time. Cancellations made within 72 hours prior to the train will only result in a minimum charge. If the ticket is for ₹1,000, you will receive a refund, almost the entire amount. However, cancellations between 72 hours and 24 hours will result in a 25% fare deduction. If the ticket is for ₹1,000, ₹250 will be deducted, and ₹750 will be refunded. Similarly, if a cancellation is made between 24 hours and 8 hours prior to the train, only 50% of the fare will be deducted. If the ticket is for ₹1,000, ₹500 will be deducted, and ₹500 will be refunded. If you cancel less than 8 hours before the train’s departure, there will be no refund. For example, if the train is scheduled for 6 pm and you cancel after 12 noon, you will not receive a refund.
New Boarding Point Change Rules
Passengers can now change their boarding station up to 30 minutes before the train’s departure. Previously, this had to be changed before the chart was prepared. Suppose you have a ticket from station A to station Z, but your plans suddenly change and you want to board from station B. Now, you can change your boarding point via your mobile phone up to 30 minutes before the train departs from station A. This will benefit passengers who can make last-minute changes and easily board the train from another station.
