Train Cancelled: A major railway block will be in effect at Gorakhpur Junction from September 22 to 26. Train services on the Gorakhpur-Lucknow route will be disrupted during this period. Approximately 49 trains, including the Gorakhdham, Humsafar, Intercity, Chauri-Chora, and Dehradun Express, will be cancelled on various dates.
The route of 26 trains will be diverted, and some trains will be operated with intermediate stops. With train services virtually suspended during the block, the state-run bus service will take over. The State Transport Corporation has decided to operate 20 additional buses between Gorakhpur and Lucknow from September 22 to 26.
Regional Manager, Love Kumar Singh, stated that additional buses will be deployed from the Gorakhpur bus station to ensure that passengers do not face any inconvenience. More buses will be arranged if the passenger load increases. All preparations for bus operations are complete.
According to sources, the dilapidated and currently closed foot overbridge (FOB) at Gorakhpur Junction will also be demolished during the mega block. The station management has intensified its preparations for the demolition of the FOB. Additional security personnel and railway staff will be deployed for this purpose.
A new FOB is under construction to replace the old one. According to Pankaj Kumar Singh, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Railway, the mega block has been scheduled for laying the third rail line between Gorakhpur and Domingargh and the second line between Gorakhpur and Nakha Jungle.
During the mega block, pre-non-interlocking work will take place on September 22, and non-interlocking work will continue from September 23 to 26. Train operations will resume normally from September 27. The laying of the third and second lines will increase the track capacity at Gorakhpur Junction.
Train delays on the Gorakhpur-Domingargh route will be reduced. More trains can be operated during festivals like Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath Puja to meet the increased demand. Train speeds will increase, and punctuality will improve.
Freight train operations will also be uninterrupted. The third rail line has already been laid from Gorakhpur to Cantt and Kusmhi. The third rail line is to be laid on the 425 km Barabanki-Gonda-Chhapra main railway line via Gorakhpur. The survey work for this project is almost complete.
