There is anger among the people regarding the toll plaza built on UER-2 in Delhi. Due to the Mundka-Bakarwala toll plaza, people of nearby villages are avoiding using UER-2. To avoid the toll, they are using the connecting roads of the villages, due to which the congestion on those routes has increased.
There is growing resentment among people over Delhi’s first and most expensive toll on UER-2. It has been 11 days since UER-2 started, but people from dozens of nearby villages are reluctant to use this route due to the Mundka-Bakkarwala toll plaza. People are using UER-2 only when there is very urgent work. To avoid toll, people have started using the connecting roads of the villages.
This is the reason why vehicles are seen piling up on the connecting roads of the villages around UER-2. People say that they have to pay Rs 235 to cover a distance of five-seven kilometers, the people of this area are not ready to bear this expense.
To understand what is going on in the minds of the people of the area regarding the Mundka-Bakkarwala toll, consider the words of Manoj Mathur of Ranikheda village.
Manoj says that I often have to go to Dwarka in connection with my work. The distance of Dwarka from my village is about 20 kilometers. Till now I used to pass through Dwarka via Hiran Kudna. If I want to go by UER 2, then I will have to pay a toll of Rs 235 for one way and Rs 350 for both ways.
There are many people like Manoj Mathur, who are not able to use UER-2 even if they want to. People living in villages like Mundka, Madanpur Dabas, Ranikheda, Rasoolpur, Majri, Bakkarwala, Hiran Kudna etc. also have the same problem to reach Dwarka. People of many of these villages will have to pay toll for traveling five to 10 kilometers. People of these villages often have to go to DM office located in Dwarka, Najafgarh Mandi and Kapashera for their daily work.
Two MPs and two MLAs met Union Minister of State regarding toll
After people’s displeasure over Mundka-Bakkarwala toll plaza, political stir is now intensifying. Regarding Delhi’s first and most expensive toll, MP Yogendra Chandolia from North-West region and Kamaljit Sehrawat from West Delhi, besides MLA Gajendra Daral from Mundka and MLA Sandeep Sehrawat from Matiala met Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Harsh Malhotra on Thursday and discussed the issue.
MP Kamaljit Sehrawat said that the issue of toll has been placed before the Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways. Positive results are expected soon. MP Yogendra Chandolia wrote on the internet media that UER-2 is the lifeline for the people of Delhi. The burden of toll on it cannot be put on the local villagers. NHAI officials have been instructed to find a quick solution.
If we have to go to Bakkarwala from UER-2, we have to pay a toll of Rs 235. There is only a distance of five kilometers between Hiran Kudna and Bakkarwala. The Prime Minister gave a gift in the form of UER-2, but we cannot use it. Toll should not be collected from the villagers. – Krishna Singh Daral, Hiran Kudna
It would have been fine if this toll tax was made on the border. But this is the first toll plaza in Delhi. Where the highest toll is being collected. We have relatives in the villages around us. That is why we go to Bakkarwala and Najafgarh. But now we have to pay toll to go there. Then we will be able to go. – Satyabir Dabas, local, Ranikhet
The government has done wrong by building a toll plaza here, because UER-2 is not a very long highway. Most of the locals and Delhiites travel here and these people have to pay toll for travelling 20 to 30 kilometres. Then how will the common man do his work. – Jaiprakash, local, Bhagya Vihar
