Preventing misuse of Aadhaar is now in your hands. By using UIDAI’s online services and helpline, you can not only protect your Aadhaar but also take timely action on any suspicious activity. In Digital India, your identity is your responsibility
UIDAI Update: The use of Aadhaar card has increased rapidly in the last few years. You have to provide Aadhaar for everything from banking, government schemes, mobile connection to children’s school admission, booking train tickets to staying in hotels. As fast as the use of Aadhaar has increased, its misuse has also increased at the same pace. Fake transactions on someone else’s Aadhaar card have now become very common. In such a situation, if you want to stay safe, then it is important for you to know where you have given your Aadhaar card. And whether it is being misused or not. You can easily track your Aadhaar card.
1. What is the risk of misuse of Aadhaar?
By misusing the Aadhaar number, someone can open a bank account in your name, take a loan, or take advantage of government schemes. Many times mobile SIM or other services also get activated fraudulently.
2. How to know whether your Aadhaar was misused or not?
UIDAI has provided a facility called “Authentication History”, through which you can see when, where and for what purpose your Aadhaar was used.
3. How to see authentication history?
First go to myAadhaar portal (https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in).
Fill in 12 digit Aadhaar number and captcha, then login via OTP.
Select “Aadhaar Authentication History” option on the dashboard.
Select date and type of authentication (such as biometric, demographic or OTP).
As soon as you submit, the history of the last 6 months will appear on the screen.
4. What to see in the history?
Here you will see the date, time of every transaction, and which agency used your Aadhaar. If you see any unknown or suspicious activity, be alert immediately.
5. What to do if it is being misused?
Go to UIDAI’s website (https://resident.uidai.gov.in/file-complaint) and file a complaint.
Call UIDAI’s toll-free number 1947.
You can also complain by visiting the nearest Aadhaar service center.
6. Option to lock Aadhaar
If you fear repeated misuse, you can lock your Aadhaar’s biometric data from the UIDAI portal or mAadhaar app. This will prevent anyone from doing biometric authentication without your permission.
7. Be careful while giving photocopies
Make sure to write the date, time and purpose for which it is being given on the photocopy of Aadhaar. Do not unnecessarily share complete information with anyone.
8. Check history from time to time
Check your authentication history at regular intervals so that any suspicious activity can be detected in time.
9. Keep Aadhaar updated
If there is any old or incorrect information in Aadhaar, get it updated immediately. This is also important from a security point of view.
10. Be aware, be cautious
In this era of digital identity, a little vigilance can save you from big trouble. Use UIDAI’s tools and ensure the security of your Aadhaar yourself.
