UP Panchayat Election: Election Commission gave relief, know what is the new decision

There is still scope to add names or amendment etc. to the voter list which was finally published on January 22 for the Panchayat elections. People whose names are left in the list or there is an error in them, they can get their names registered. These names will be registered before the notification of the Panchayat elections. In this regard, the State Election Commission has issued a circular on Thursday in the name of all District Magistrates and all District Election Officers.

Under this, during the detailed revision of electoral rolls of three-tier panchayats, the procedure for disposal of claims and objections is to be adopted for a fixed time. It should be decided that according to the provisions of Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Raj Act 1947 and Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Raj (Electoral Registration) Rules 1994, a review should be done so that an eligible person is not exempted from registering in the electoral roll.

It has also been said in the circular that if for some reason the name of the eligible person gets omitted or misplaced in the voter list or if the name of an ineligible person is included, the name in the list even after the final publication of the voter list to be noted. There is a provision to do this as per the rules of Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Raj (Electoral Registration) Supplementary Provision Order 10 May 2005 notified under sub-section (10) of Section 9 of Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Raj Act.

The final publication of the voter list was on 22 January 2021. Now after the last publication, applications will be made by the District Magistrate or District Election Officer (Panchayat) on the prescribed format on behalf of the citizens for inclusion, amendment or removal of the name in the period before the issue of notice of election. Therefore, all District Magistrates or District Election Officers should disseminate this information widely in their jurisdiction or inform that during this period they can apply for inclusion, amendment or deletion of names.
