Weather Update: Winter has returned to Delhi-NCR. Melting snow in the mountains and the impact of a western disturbance have brought cold winds to the plains of North India. According to the Meteorological Department, a cold wave is expected to persist in Delhi on Wednesday (February 4, 2026), with dense fog expected. The cold will be felt more intensely in the morning and late night.
The Meteorological Department has stated that the cold wave will affect entire North India, including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Bihar. Fog is likely to reduce visibility in many areas, potentially affecting road and rail traffic.
Rain and Snowfall Expected in Jammu and Kashmir
Day and night temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir recorded a slight increase on Tuesday. The minimum temperature in Srinagar was 2.8 degrees Celsius, while the mercury dropped to minus 5.3 degrees Celsius in the Gulmarg ski resort. According to the Meteorological Department, a weak western disturbance is currently active, which may cause cloudy skies in many areas. Rain and snowfall are expected in the higher reaches.
Rain Alert in Haryana and Punjab
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for cloudy skies and light to moderate rain with strong winds in most parts of Haryana and Punjab. Several districts in Punjab have experienced rain and hailstorms over the past 36 hours, further intensifying the cold. Rain is expected in Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, and Mohali in the next few hours. The minimum temperature here is expected to be 5 to 6 degrees Celsius and the maximum around 22 degrees Celsius.
Fog wreaks havoc in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar
A rain and hailstorm alert has been issued for approximately 25 districts in Uttar Pradesh, including the Agra and Moradabad divisions. Light drizzle accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected in central Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, the effects of winter continue in Bihar, with dense fog looming over several districts. The Meteorological Department has advised people to remain vigilant in light of the cold and fog.
