UPI Payment: If you use UPI for online payments, there’s a big update for you. Now, the UPI payment method has completely changed, and all users will be able to use biometrics instead of a PIN. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has rolled out this feature for Android and iPhone users. The advantage of this is that users will no longer need to enter a PIN for payments up to ₹5,000 and will be able to make payments using fingerprint or Face ID.

The feature is now available to all users.

Until now, biometric payment options were available only to Android users on limited apps, including Amazon Pay and PhonePe. Now, it has been rolled out to all users. In addition to Android, iPhone users will also be able to make payments using FaceID. Your payment app must be updated to use this feature. It will only work for payments up to ₹5,000. Transactions larger than this will require a PIN as before.

How to enable this feature?

Activating the feature to use biometric verification instead of a PIN is very easy. Open any app you use, including PhonePe, Google Pay, or BHIM. Then, type “Biometric Payment” or “Pay with FaceID” in the search bar. Once opened, select the bank account you want to use this feature on. You will be asked for your UPI PIN for verification. Once verification is complete, the biometric payment feature will activate.

What will be the benefit of this change?

With this feature, UPI payments will become faster. Many people forget their PIN numbers or enter the wrong PIN when making payments. The new feature will eliminate that hassle. The need for a PIN number is now eliminated. If your phone has a fingerprint sensor, you can make payments using your fingerprint, or if your phone supports Face ID, you can make payments using your face.
