What to do if a UPI transaction goes wrong

If you’ve accidentally transferred money to another account, don’t panic. Immediately check your bank or payment app to review the transaction details. Then, try to file a complaint immediately. The sooner you file a complaint, the greater the chance of getting your money back.

How to file a complaint on the NPCI portal

Step 1: You can file a complaint about an incorrect transaction on the National Payments Corporation of India website. First, open www.npci.org.in. Click on the UPI Dispute/Complaint option.

Step 2: Next, enter your UPI Reference Number and transaction details. Enter your mobile number. Finally, submit your complaint. Once submitted, your complaint is registered in the system and further investigation begins.

You can also file a complaint using the helpline number.

If you are unable to file a complaint online, you can also call the helpline number. For UPI-related issues, you can file a complaint by calling 1800-120-1740. This number is toll-free.

Keep SMS and transaction details safe

Whenever you make a digital payment, keep the SMS and transaction details associated with it. If a problem arises, this information will be useful in filing a complaint or during an investigation.
