US Visa Charges: If you’re planning a trip to the United States, this news is especially important. The visa process has become more challenging for citizens of many countries. The US administration has made a significant change to its visa policy, adding seven new countries to the list, requiring citizens to submit a bond of between $5,000 and $15,000 at the time of applying for a visa to enter the United States. This decision now covers citizens of 13 countries. The new system took effect on January 1st and is intended to ensure strict adherence to visa regulations.

Which countries were included in the list?

According to information released on the US State Department’s official website, travel.state.gov, the seven new countries added to the list include Bhutan, Botswana, Central African Republic, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Namibia, and Turkmenistan. Five of these countries are from the African continent. Earlier in August and October, Mauritania, Sao Tome and Principe, Tanzania, Gambia, Malawi and Zambia were brought under this rule.

What else has changed in the visa process?

In addition to the bond system, the US has also tightened the visa application process. In-person interviews are now mandatory for many applicants. They are also requesting details about social media accounts, family background, and previous residences. Officials say these measures will enable better background checks and curb illegal stays in the US.

Purpose of the Bond and Terms of Refund

According to the US administration, this bond is not a fee but a security deposit. Paying it does not guarantee a visa. If an applicant’s visa is rejected or they fully comply with the visa requirements and leave the US on time, the deposit is refunded. Officials believe this arrangement will prove effective in curbing the tendency to overstay their visa.

This new decision has made travel to the US more formal, expensive, and complicated for citizens of the affected countries, while the US views it as an important step toward strengthening its immigration policy.
