US Visa Policy: The US Embassy has issued a strict warning regarding B1/B2 visitor visas. Violations of these rules could result in visa cancellation and a permanent ban on entry into the US.
US Visa Policy: The US Embassy in India has issued a stern warning to those wishing to travel to the United States. This warning applies specifically to those traveling on B1/B2 visitor visas. The Embassy has clearly stated that it is crucial to understand the permissible and non-permissible activities on a visitor visa before traveling to the United States.
An animated video shared by the US Embassy on the social media platform X states that if the consular officer suspects that the applicant will not comply with visa regulations during the visa interview, their application may be immediately rejected. The Embassy also clarified that once a visa is granted, it is the traveler’s sole responsibility to use it properly.
Not sure what your B1/B2 visa allows? You are not alone. Every U.S. visa has specific rules and following them is your responsibility. Breaking the rules could result in a permanent ban.
The embassy has warned that anyone misusing a B1/B2 visitor visa or overstaying in the US could face a permanent ban on future visits. The US embassy has urged travelers to carefully review all rules before traveling, visiting the official website at travel.state.gov/visas.
Student visa holders also warned
A day earlier, the US embassy had issued a warning to international students. The embassy stated that breaking the law in the US or being arrested for a criminal offense could result in the student’s visa being revoked and the student being deported. The embassy categorically stated that a US visa is not a right, but a privilege.
Strict stance on H-1B visas as well
Last week, the US Embassy also warned H-1B and H-4 work visa holders that violations of immigration rules could result in heavy fines, legal action, and even imprisonment.
The impact of the strict immigration policy is visible
The impact of the strict immigration policy introduced during the Donald Trump administration is now clearly visible. The number of new international students in the US declined by 17% last year. In August 2024, this decline reached 19% year-on-year, with students from India experiencing the largest decline. Meanwhile, applicants for H-1B visas are now facing longer wait times than ever before.
