Vande Bharat Express: A very big and good news has come for those traveling in the country’s most modern and favorite train, Vande Bharat Express. If you too often have to face a ‘waiting list’ while booking a Vande Bharat ticket, then now your problem is going to end soon. In view of the huge crowd of passengers and the ever-increasing demand, Indian Railways has decided to increase the number of coaches of Vande Bharat trains on 7 most superhit routes of the country.
Till now you must have seen Vande Bharat trains with 8 or 16 coaches, but now soon you will also see the long Vande Bharat Express with 20 coaches running on the tracks. This decision is no less than a gift for the passengers, because this will increase hundreds of seats in every train.
Why was this big decision taken?
This decision has not been taken in the air. The Railways studied the data of the financial year 2025-26 (till July 31, 2025) in depth. During this, it was observed on which routes the Vande Bharat trains are the most crowded and the seats are almost always full (High Occupancy). Based on this study, the Railways made a plan under which the capacity of trains will be increased on the most demanded routes. This simply means – more coaches, more seats, and get rid of the waiting list.
On which 7 routes will the number of coaches be increased?

Train number 20631/32 Mangaluru Central – Thiruvananthapuram Central Vande Bharat: A 20 coach train will now run on this very busy route of South India.
Train number 20701/02 Secunderabad – Tirupati Vande Bharat: This is a big relief for the devotees going to visit Balaji. A 20 coach train will now run on this route as well.
Train number 20665/66 Chennai Egmore – Tirunelveli Vande Bharat: The number of coaches has been increased from 16 to 20 on this important route of Tamil Nadu in view of the increasing number of passengers.

Which trains will now have 16 coaches instead of 8:
Train number 20671/72 Madurai – Bengaluru Cantt Vande Bharat: The capacity of this train connecting the IT hub Bengaluru to the temple city of Madurai has now been doubled.
Train number 22499/00 Deoghar – Varanasi Vande Bharat: This important pilgrimage train connecting the city of Baba Baidyanath to the city of Baba Vishwanath will now have 16 coaches.
Train number 20871/72 Howrah – Rourkela Vande Bharat: The capacity of the train has been doubled for the convenience of passengers on this industrial route of eastern India.
Train number 20911/12 Indore – Nagpur Vande Bharat: This train connecting two major cities of central India will now have 16 coaches instead of 8.

The railways have clarified that after installing new and bigger rakes on these 7 routes, the old 8 coach and 16 coach rakes that will be empty will be used to run Vande Bharat trains on new routes.
