Indian Railways is launching the country’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train this month. Running between Guwahati and Kolkata, the train will have 823 berths and no VIP quota or RAC facilities, completely transforming the long-distance travel experience.
New Delhi: Indian Railways is taking a major step towards making long-distance overnight travel comfortable and modern. This month, the country’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train is set to hit the tracks, running between Guwahati and Kolkata. Along with the launch of this train, the Railways has also made major and transparent changes to the ticketing system, making it distinct from other trains.

New ticket booking rules, VIP quota abolished!
According to government sources, the biggest highlight of this train is its ticketing system. Sources indicate that the Vande Bharat Sleeper will be entirely dedicated to general passengers, with no VIP or emergency quotas. Even senior railway officials will not be able to travel on it using their passes. The Railways has clarified that only confirmed tickets will be valid for travel.
Additionally, there are talks of eliminating the RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) system on the train, eliminating the option of waiting lists or using half-berths. This move aims to provide passengers with a transparent and hassle-free ticketing experience.

What will the Vande Bharat Sleeper look like from the inside?
The train will operate with a total of 16 coaches, providing 823 berths for passengers. These include one First AC coach (24 berths), four Second AC coaches (188 berths), and three Third AC coaches (611 berths). The train’s berths are ergonomically designed and feature improved cushioning to ensure a comfortable sleep for passengers.
The train features modern features such as automatic doors, improved vestibule connections, an improved suspension system, and reduced noise. Passengers will receive upgraded bedrolls of better quality than those on regular trains. Local cuisine will also be served during the journey.

Special Emphasis on Safety and Comfort
Passenger safety is the Railways’ top priority. Keeping this in mind, the train has been equipped with the “Kavach” automatic train protection system. An emergency talk-back system is also in place for emergencies and disinfectant technology is in place for cleanliness. The Railways claims that this train will also showcase India’s cultural diversity, with all staff wearing uniforms. Overall, this train promises to make long-distance overnight travel safer, more comfortable, and disciplined.
