Fire Chief Pavel Tovar did not specify whether the deceased were on the plane or in cars parked on the highway near La Paz airport. He said some people were injured.
According to photos posted on social media, the plane crashed into a field after colliding with vehicles in El Alto, a city adjacent to La Paz. It is unclear whether the plane was taking off or crashed during landing.

Plane debris, damaged cars, and bodies were scattered across the road. According to Tovar, at least 15 vehicles were affected. Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire on the plane.
The Bolivian Air Force Hercules aircraft was carrying new banknotes from the Central Bank to other cities. A large number of notes were scattered at the crash site.
Injured Hospitalized
Local authorities confirmed that the injured included both civilians on the ground and those on board the plane. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, some of whom are reported to be in critical condition.
Footage circulating on social media shows chaos at the crash site, with crowds gathered around the wreckage and some people picking up scattered notes. Local authorities were also seen using water cannons to disperse the crowd.
Airport closed
Following the accident, El Alto International Airport was temporarily closed. Bolivia’s national airline, Boliviana de Aviacion, said in a statement that the aircraft involved in the accident was not part of its fleet.
El Alto, located at an altitude of more than 4,000 meters near the administrative capital, La Paz, is one of Bolivia’s most populous urban centers.
