Virat Kohli Vijay Hazare Trophy Update: Following the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s directives, Virat Kohli performed brilliantly with the bat in the first two matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. Playing for Delhi, Virat scored a century in the first match and a half-century in the second. Following this, DDCA President Rohan Jaitley announced that before the ODI series between India and New Zealand, Virat will play one more match in the current season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, against Railways on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. However, Delhi’s coach has now confirmed that Kohli will not play in the match against Railways. This means that Virat will now be seen on the field directly in the ODI matches against New Zealand.

Virat performed brilliantly in both matches.

The decision to not play for Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy was made at the last minute. This match will be played today, January 6, in Bengaluru. As per BCCI guidelines, Virat has already played two matches for Delhi in this tournament. He played against Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat, scoring a brilliant century of 131 runs in the first match and 77 runs in the second. Thanks to these impressive innings, Delhi registered two consecutive victories.

Delhi coach speaks on Virat’s unavailability

Delhi coach Sarandeep Singh, speaking to Hindustan Times, said, “No, he (Virat) is not available for this match.” According to BCCI guidelines, players with central contracts are required to play at least two Vijay Hazare Trophy matches, which Virat has already completed. However, DDCA president Rohan Jaitley said last week that Kohli would play in the match against Railways. Virat looked in excellent form in his two matches for Delhi. During these innings, he achieved another major milestone, becoming the fastest player to reach 16,000 List A runs. He achieved this milestone in his 330th innings, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record, who had reached this milestone in 391 innings.
