Visa Application Ban: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has temporarily suspended tourist and work visas for citizens of nine African and Asian countries. This decision affects citizens of Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Sudan, and Uganda. The ban will take effect in 2026 and will remain in place until the UAE government orders its lifting.

This visa ban is not a complete travel ban. Those who already hold valid UAE visas can remain and work there. New visa applications will not be accepted from citizens of these countries. Several reasons may be behind this move, including security concerns, health protocols, diplomatic tensions, and immigration regulations.

Security concerns include fraud, flaws in identity document verification, and terrorism-related threats. Even after the COVID-19 pandemic, the spread of the virus remains a concern due to health monitoring issues in many countries. Furthermore, the UAE is implementing this policy to digitize its immigration processes and curb identity fraud.

The visa ban will impact both the employment and tourism sectors. Workforces from these nine countries will not receive UAE visas, which could impact jobs in the construction, domestic work, retail, and service sectors. People who used to send financial aid to their families will also be affected, potentially leading to an economic crisis. The tourism sector will also slow down as tourists from these countries will be forced to change their travel plans.

No specific end date has been announced for this visa ban, but experts believe that when the situation becomes safe and stable, the UAE will reopen visa applications to citizens of these countries. Under new rules, necessary documentation, health certifications, and other procedures will be mandatory.

This move by the UAE is considered a major step towards improving security, public health, and paperwork, which will undoubtedly impact travel, employment, and economic activity in the affected countries.
