Canada: Canada has rejected visa applications from India and other countries over the past few months. This includes visitor visas as well as student visas.
Visa Rejected: The dream of Indian students to travel to Canada appears to be shattered. Canada has rejected most visa applications in the past few months. Canada has taken this step in response to visa fraud. Visas for Indian citizens, as well as Chinese and Bangladeshi citizens, are also facing a crisis.
CBC News reports that Canadian authorities have partnered with US agencies to identify and cancel fraudulent visitor visa applications from India and Bangladesh. Importantly, Canada has also tightened its student visa procedures.
74% of Indian students’ study permits cancelled
News agency ANI, citing government data, reported that 74% of Indian students’ study permits were cancelled in August 2025, meaning three out of four visas were rejected. This figure was only 32% in August 2023. This is causing difficulties for students from India traveling to Canada to study. Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government is set to unveil its Immigration Levels Plan this month, under pressure to reduce the number of people coming into the country from other countries.
Declining Number of Applicants to Canada
Canada has rejected approximately 40 percent of Global Student Permit applications over the past two years. Significantly, the rejection rate for Chinese students remained at 24 percent. Canada was once a popular destination for Indian students, but applications have now declined. In August 2023, 20,900 students applied, while in August 2025, only 4,515 applications were received. Despite this decline, Canada continues to reject visa applications. According to reports, approximately 1,000 Indian applications were rejected.
