The shooting killed US Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, while US Air Force Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolff remains in critical condition.

US President Donald Trump has stated that he will permanently ban all immigrants from “third world” countries and deport foreign nationals who pose a security threat. The term “third world” is generally used to describe poor or underdeveloped countries. The Trump administration has stated that it will rigorously review all green cards issued to immigrants from “countries of concern.”
All asylum decisions are also suspended, effective immediately.
The US has also put a moratorium on all asylum decisions, effective immediately. This moratorium will remain in place until the US government ensures proper vetting of all asylum seekers. US agencies are re-screening previous asylum approvals and green card applications approved under the Biden administration. The suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, entered the US under former President Joe Biden’s administration’s “Operation Allies Welcome.”
Under this plan, an initiative was launched to resettle Afghan citizens in the US after the Taliban took over Afghanistan in 2021. Lakanwal was granted asylum in April 2025 under the Trump administration.
