Weather Update: Cold weather is currently at its peak in North India. In addition to the capital, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Bihar are experiencing severe cold. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of light to moderate rain in several states. It has also predicted a cold wave in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

Delhi and surrounding areas are currently experiencing severe cold. Although the daytime sun is shining, mornings and evenings are extremely cold. On the morning of January 15th, the minimum temperature in the capital was recorded at 2.9 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest morning of the season. Previously, on January 7th, 2013, the minimum temperature was 2.6 degrees Celsius. The weather in Delhi-NCR will remain similar today, Friday.

Weather Changes in Uttar Pradesh

The weather in Uttar Pradesh has suddenly taken a turn for the worse. While the afternoon sunshine had brought some relief, the cold intensified Thursday night. Heavy fog is expected this Friday morning. Rain is forecast for parts of Uttar Pradesh on January 19th and 20th, which could further intensify the cold.

The capital, Lucknow, is experiencing hot days and chilly nights. Wednesday night was the season’s coldest, with the temperature dropping to 5.5 degrees Celsius. However, Thursday saw a bright sunny day, bringing the temperature to 20.7 degrees Celsius. The difference between day and night temperatures was 15.2 degrees Celsius.

A meteorologist explained the reason.

Fog was observed in many areas of Uttar Pradesh today. According to meteorologists, night temperatures are also expected to rise. Atul Kumar Singh, a senior scientist at the Lucknow Meteorological Center in Amausi, explained that the significant difference between day and night temperatures is due to the complete removal of the fog layer. Clear skies are making the day warmer, while the nights are cooling rapidly after sunset.

Severe Cold in Punjab and Haryana

Cold weather continued to prevail in many parts of Punjab and Haryana on Thursday, with temperatures dropping. According to the Meteorological Department, Hisar was the coldest in both states, with a minimum temperature of 0.2 degrees Celsius, six degrees below normal. Visibility was significantly reduced in many parts of Haryana and Punjab due to fog in the morning. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Narnaul, Haryana, was 1.5 degrees Celsius, and in Nuh, it was 4.6 degrees Celsius.

Where will it rain?

The Meteorological Department has issued a rain warning for six states in northern India over the next 72 hours. Rain is expected in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh from January 16th to 20th. Rain and snowfall are also possible at isolated places in Uttarakhand. Rain is also expected in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh between January 18th and 20th, and in isolated places in western Uttar Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan on January 19th and 20th.
