Delhi Weather Today: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of “dense fog” till 9:03 am. The national capital is experiencing severe cold, with the minimum temperature dropping to 3.6 degrees Celsius at Lodhi Road on Wednesday. Gurugram also recorded a drop to 3.5 degrees Celsius. The weather department has predicted a cold wave on Thursday.
The red alert issued for fog warns of very low visibility and states, “There is a strong possibility of very dense fog at many places in Central Delhi, New Delhi, North Delhi, North West, South Delhi and South West during the next 3 hours.”
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave warning for Delhi’s neighboring states, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, predicting dense fog in northwest India in the coming days. In its latest weather bulletin, the IMD stated, “Dense to very dense fog is very likely to prevail over Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and parts of Delhi during the morning/night hours till January 16, and dense fog will continue to prevail in some areas till January 19, 2026.”
Delhi Airport issued an orange alert at 6:00 am due to very low visibility (about 50 meters). Warning of flight disruptions, delays, and cancellations, the airport stated that flight operations are currently being conducted under CAT III.
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for a cold wave.
The weather agency has forecast partly cloudy skies on January 15 and has issued a yellow alert for cold wave conditions. “Cold wave conditions will prevail at some places. Moderate fog will occur at many places in the morning, and dense fog may also occur at some places,” the weather agency said.
According to the weather forecast, the minimum temperature in Delhi is likely to be around 3.1 to 5 degrees Celsius below normal, while the maximum temperature will remain around normal with a difference of around 1.5 degrees Celsius. The IMD said, “The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are likely to remain between 21°C to 23°C and 3°C to 5°C, respectively.”
On Wednesday, the minimum temperature at Safdarjung, the primary weather monitoring station, dropped to 3.8 degrees Celsius, while Ayanagar recorded 4 degrees Celsius. The weather department recorded a minimum temperature of 4.4 degrees Celsius in the Palam area and 4.6 degrees Celsius in the Ridge area.
Warning of a severe cold wave, the IMD said in its press release, “Cold wave conditions are likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand on January 15 and 16, over western Uttar Pradesh and Delhi on January 15, and over Odisha from January 15 to 17.”
