Today Weather Update: The effects of winter are now being felt across the country. With the cold increasing in early November, there is an alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in Northeast, Central, and Western India from November 4th to 7th. States like Assam, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat are at risk of flooding and waterlogging. The IMD has issued a high alert, cautioning farmers and travelers. Let’s explore the weather for the next five days. According to the IMD’s official bulletin, a new system is forming due to the remnants of Cyclone Montha and a depression in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. This has led to storms in western parts of Madhya Pradesh since November 3rd. Similarly, in the Northeast, Assam and Meghalaya have been experiencing heavy rain since November 1st, and will continue until next week. If you are in these areas, keep your umbrella and raincoat ready.

Five-Day Weather Outlook

According to the Meteorological Department, a new Western Disturbance will significantly alter the mountainous weather system on November 4th. Rain and snowfall will occur in the higher reaches of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh on November 5th, leading to a rapid drop in temperatures, a sign of a severe winter. Meanwhile, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan will remain cloudy until November 6th due to Cyclone Monta and a Western Disturbance, bringing heavy rain and altering the weather. On November 4th, Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab will experience cloudy skies, accompanied by light winds. While the weather will remain clear next week, dense fog will prevail in the mornings, and a cold snap will begin.

What is the situation with Montha?

The IMD has warned that as Cyclone Montha weakens, weather activity will continue over Northeast and South India for the next 48 hours. During this period, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Assam, Nagaland, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Vidarbha, Maharashtra, and parts of Gujarat are on alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light to moderate rainfall. Therefore, people should stay in safe places during this inclement weather.

List the states most likely to be affected.

According to the IMD report, heavy rains could wreak havoc in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan. In particular, the Saurashtra-Kutch region of Gujarat could receive 12-20 cm of rainfall, increasing the risk of flooding. The situation in Gujarat is already dire. The IMD said winds will blow at speeds of 30-40 km/h, potentially uprooting trees. There is a risk of landslides in the hilly areas of the Northeast, so travelers should be cautious. Farmers are also facing difficulties. Sowing of the Rabi crop may be delayed.

Western Disturbance to Bring Rain and Snowfall to North India

A new Western Disturbance, a major winter weather system, is expected to affect northwest India from the night of November 4th. The International Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain and snowfall in the western Himalayan region between November 3rd and 5th, affecting states like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Cloudy skies, drizzle, and a drop in maximum temperatures are expected in the plains of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and western Uttar Pradesh. This is expected to usher in pre-winter weather in North India, bringing temporary relief from polluted skies and mild heat.

What to do to protect yourself?

While rain is difficult to avoid, the damage can certainly be minimized. Check the weather app when venturing out. Stay away from power lines, as there is a high risk of lightning. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
