Delhi Pollution: Amid deteriorating air quality in Delhi, the government has imposed several strict restrictions. Offices, vehicles, and daily activities are likely to be affected. If you live in Delhi or are planning a trip, it’s important to be aware of the new rules.
Delhi Pollution: Delhi’s air is once again causing problems for residents. The AQI has consistently remained at dangerous levels for the past few days, and the situation has worsened to the point where even being outdoors has become difficult. In light of this situation, the Delhi government has taken strict measures to curb pollution. These rules will impact everyone, from office-goers to pedestrians.
Work from Home Implemented Today
Delhi Labor Minister Kapil Mishra has announced that starting Thursday, not only government offices but also private offices will be required to follow work from home rules. According to the order, no more than half the employees can be present at a time in any private office. The remaining staff will have to work remotely, i.e., from home. The government has clarified that violations could result in action. However, employees working in hospitals, fire services, transport, and other essential services have been exempted.
Government Support for Workers
Construction work, considered a major source of pollution, has been halted. The government has announced a relief package for workers affected by this. Registered workers will receive financial assistance of ₹10,000 while GRAP-IV remains in effect. The registration process is ongoing to ensure the funds reach those in need.
No PUC Certificate, No Fuel
The Delhi government has taken a major decision to crack down on polluting vehicles. According to Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, fuel will no longer be available at petrol pumps without a PUC certificate. To achieve this, checking teams will be deployed in border areas and at pumps. A PUC certificate is issued after an emission test at an authorized center and is valid for 12 months for BS-IV and BS-VI vehicles.
Entry of these vehicles into Delhi is banned
As long as GRAP-3 and GRAP-4 remain in effect, vehicles below BS-6 registered outside Delhi will be prohibited from entering. Furthermore, trucks carrying construction materials will also not be allowed to enter Delhi. The CAQM sub-committee decided to immediately implement GRAP-4 after the AQI reached severe levels on December 13th.
The Delhi government says these steps have been taken to provide some relief to the public and improve air quality. Traffic police and transport department teams will be deployed on the ground, and options like carpooling apps are being explored in the coming days. For now, Delhiites need to follow the rules and take special care of their health.
