Air Pollution in Delhi: GRAP-3 has been implemented in Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad. This decision was taken following the serious air pollution situation.

Air Pollution in Delhi: GRAP 3 has been implemented amid severe air pollution in Delhi NCR. Following this, schools up to Class 5 may be closed. Companies may also be asked to operate from home. The AQI level in Delhi, from Anand Vihar and Palam to the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk, was above 400. Following this, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has decided to implement GRAP 3. Old diesel vehicles may also be banned in Delhi.

What restrictions will be imposed under Group 3?

  • Demolition, non-essential construction, and old diesel vehicles will be banned.
  • Truck transport of goods such as cement and sand will be prohibited.
  • Diesel buses from outside and within Delhi will also be banned.
  • Schools up to Class 5 will be closed and online classes will be allowed.
  • Stone crushers and mining activities will be banned.
  • Diesel generators will be banned, except for emergency services.
  • Companies will be advised to work from home or operate in hybrid mode.

Air pollution in the very poor category

The central government’s decision came after air quality in Delhi-NCR reached the severe category. The average air quality index (AQI) in Delhi was 362 on Monday, which falls in the very poor category. On Tuesday, it reached 425. The CAQM recommended this decision, taking into account the slow wind speed and atmospheric conditions. Group 3 restrictions were imposed on November 14th last year.

Vehicles with BS-4 engines have already been banned in Delhi. The government also attempted to induce rain in Delhi through cloud seeding, although this was unsuccessful.

What restrictions are imposed on how much AQI?

Grap I (Poor, AQI 201-300)
Grap II (Very Poor, AQI 301-400)
Grap III (Severe, AQI 401-450)
Grap IV (Very Severe, AQI above 450)
